Special design features

The Alpha flyer incorporate three interesting design features:

  • Enhanced Phasers:
    The Enhanced Phasers are the now standard phasers which are to be implemented throughout Starfleet. Enhanced phasers uses a wide frequency band of radiation and allow a ultra rapid changing of the phasers central emission frequency. They also allow the for several different central frequency emissions to be used. The intent is for the different phaser emissions to prevent the Borg from being able to adapt. By utilizing a wide band of frequency and altering them in an ultra rapid and random sequence, the expectation is that the Borg will not be able to adapt to all the different frequency, modulations and phase shifts the Enhanced phaser present. The problem with the Enhanced phasers is they do require more maintenance, mass and energy than a standard phaser. Yet Starfleet Engineering continued to work on improving the capability of Enhanced phasers, as they see long term it the primary weapon against further and future Borg incursion. Furthermore they are slightly more effective against conventional enemies such as Romulan and Breen as there shields were also designed for standard phasers.

  • Advanced Photon Torpedoes:
    The Advanced Capability Torpedoes or ADCAPs are designed to be a long range torpedoes with advanced targeting capabilities. The advanced targeting means that they are equipped with an advanced sensor packages capable of tracking targets via passive and active sensors. The Artificial Intelligence used in an ADCAP are capable of preset courses whereby they can go to a designated location and remain passive till the required target or target parameters are detected.

    Of course the cost of the extended range and advanced sensor capabilities means that the ADCAP has a smaller payload than the standard photon torpedoes. Yet they do offer far greater tactical capabilities. Starfleet Tactical is developing new tactical concepts for utilizing the capabilities of the ADCAPs. The Endurance uses the shuttle size ADCAP designated ADCAP - Micro.

  • First Generation Stealth Sensor Warfare Systems:
    With the Treaty with the Romulan preventing development of cloaking devices, the Federation has begun developing other means of preventing the detection of their ships along with providing means to confuse or fool enemy sensors. As such the Endeavour is equipped with a sensor warfare system. The sensor warfare system is similar to the one equipped into the Endeavour and all future classes of Starfleet ships.

    The sensor warfare system involves shielding of power emission systems to attempt to reduce the shuttle's radiation signature. At the same time the sensor warfare system involves having power nodes spaced throughout the shuttle, these nodes allow the Endurance to duplicate the radiation signature of other given small craft and some very small ships. As long as the Endurance stays out of visual range of another craft or sensor platform it should be able to fool all but the most sophisticated scans. This allows for the Endurance radiation signature to appear to be that of another ship such as a Romulan or Cardassian small craft.
  • Other features:
    1. Scoutship capability:With the advanced control capabilities of the Endurance, the Endurance provides to be an ideal combat scout. With its stealth sensor system it also combines remote platform control, as such it can control several stealth equipped sensor drones. With the Endurance small signature profile it has the capability to remain undetected, where the Endeavour would not. It then can transmit information from sensor drones under its control back to the Endeavour. It may also then transmit targeting orders or targeting information to ADCAP torpedoes deployed from the Endeavour.
    2. Transporter:The Endurance comes equipped with a small two person site to ship transporter. It does not have the buffer capability or power capacity to handle site to site. Instead it requires to beam a person to the ship before beaming them to a secondary destination.
    3. Auxillary Capability:The Endurance can have a cargo pod attached to it. The cargo pod does alter the flight characteristics of the Endurance, making it slower and less agile. It also reduces the capability of the sensor warfare system or the Endurance.

      The cargo pod does allow the Endurance to provide colonial assistance and cargo hauling. It also can add tactical options to the Endurance. It can - for example - become a mine layer or mine clearance vessel. The cargo pod can also be a torpedo pod, thus the pod is a torpedo launcher and storage pod. The torpedo pod can be deployed in space or it can be used to increase the number of available torpedoes
